Soldering for the NRS is minimal since we are using the Vex Kit for most of the project. However, there are a few custom parts that need to be assembled such as the bluetooth and the LED lights will also need to be soldered together for the project.
Soldering the bluetoothModem
The Bluetooth Modem is a custom board from sparkfun. A connector will need to be made that connects the Bluetooth Modem to the Vex controller.
This connection can be made using a set of 6 header pins and a Cat 5 Cable (any solid 4 or more wire cable will work).
Put the wire through the hole for VCC, place the soldering iron tip onto the wire and the metal ring in the chip, count to 5 and place solder onto the chip, remove iron and inspect the joint. The joint should be clean and neat.
Here are a couple of example pictures of the connector we have made.
Below is an instructional video on how to solder to a board such as the Bluetooth Modem.
You can use two VEX extension cables and a set of header pins to complete this task. Really any cable will work as long as you match the pins as shown above.
